Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy continues to support our community with holistic cultural arts education at the lowest fee structure possible.

Our Academy offers African-centered, multidisciplinary programming to all who would like to join. Our offerings include Youth Theater Ensemble, Dance (African, Modern, Hip-Hop, Ballet, and more), Music (West African Drum, Trap Drums, and more), Visual Arts (Fashion, Painting/Sketching, and more), Martial Arts (Capoeira), Cultural Heritage (Africana Studies), Rights of Passage (Girls/Young Women, Boys/Young Men), Toddler Creative Expressions, and more.

CULTURAL ARTS PROGRAM

The Cultural Arts Program (CAP) is a comprehensive and sequential arts instruction program offering yearlong classes to students ages 2-18 in a range of art forms that is open to all. These classes teach students fundamental skills in dance, music, theater, visual arts and martial arts to provide them with an avenue for creative expression and a vehicle for self knowledge.

IFETAYO YOUTH ENSEMBLE (IYE) PROGRAM

The Ifetayo Youth Ensemble (IYE) offers pre-professional artists ages 13-18 the intensive training to refine their skills in a dynamic and supportive environment. Members of IYE gain invaluable performance experience across New York City while working as a team to design performance pieces that support social justice issues and civic engagement initiatives of their choosing.

This program is designed for those who are passionate about elevating their craft and developing their agency as creatives, critical thinkers and change leaders. Admissions for IYE are audition based. Please email cdaninthe@ifetayo.org for more info or to request an audition.

CAP+ is our new Cultural Arts Program for students 16+ and adults who wish to continue taking classes at Ifetayo.

RITES OF PASSAGE PROGRAM

Rites of Passage: Sisters in Sisterhood (SIS) & I Am My Brother (IAMB), are free programs that lead youth through multi-year processes of learning African concepts and philosophical principles of development from pre-adolescence to early adulthood. Major components include African-centered cultural identity awareness, leadership, career exploration and development, community service, health and wellbeing, global citizenry and activism.

MARCUS GARVEY CULTURAL HERITAGE PROGRAM

Students will be introduced to an interactive Africana Studies course in which they learn about Africa’s past, present, and future. They will learn about the African origins of humanity. They learn about the ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and geographic diversity of the continent of Africa while becoming familiarized with the great ancient kingdoms and their leaders. Students will engage in active classroom activities such as age-appropriate games and hands-on projects. Students will learn to substantiate their own perspectives and theories of Africa’s future as they explore concepts of the Diaspora. Topics include positive social responses to issues affecting the African diaspora such as the Civil Rights, Black Power, Pan-African, Afrofuturism movements, and more. Students will also engage in guest-facilitated workshops and cultural trips.
