Ifetayo Welcomes New Executive Director, Chiwoniso Kaitano

Chiwoniso Kaitano, Executive DirectorBROOKLYN, N.Y. – May 1, 2018 – The Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy’s Board of Directors is excited to announce Chiwoniso Kaitano as our new Executive Director. As our 30th Anniversary approaches in the coming year, we are delighted to welcome in Chiwoniso to the Ifetayo community. She joins us with over two decades of experience in the non-profit and private sectors, having served in various capacities including nonprofit management, human rights advocacy and technology related roles.

Chiwoniso’s nonprofit career has been dedicated to helping organizations at the forefront of arts and culture, social justice, youth education, and social services. Her commitment to community exemplifies Ifetayo’s value of Ubuntu, a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.

Most recently, Chiwoniso Kaitano served as the Director of the All for One Collaborative, a collective impact project spearheaded by three major Brooklyn-based Community Development Corporations; Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, IMPACCT Brooklyn and Bridge Street Development Corporation. Under the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Chiwoniso was charged with launching and implementing the All for One initiative, which focused on promoting economic mobility within low-resource communities of color in Northern Brooklyn. The collaborative uses collective-impact models to identify service gaps and partners with the community. It works with partners in the areas of workforce development, arts and culture, housing, education, youth empowerment, mental and physical health and financial literacy. We believe the skill sets Chiwoniso employed during this experience, and her earlier roles, will be deeply impactful for the organization as we continue to evolve and work toward an expanded footprint and enhanced outcomes for the youth and families we serve.
Ifetayo has grown significantly as an institution over the past 29 years. Our name comes from the West African Yoruba word “ifetayo” which means “love is enough for joy” and captures Ifetayo’s nurturing approach to empowering youth and redefining community development.

Please join us as we embrace Chiwoniso as a leader for the next leg of our journey.
